The FAB&PP Poem of the Month for May, 1997

that was Alan Ginsberg
he's dying

i said to my cat
and to
everyone
in my empty
house

   the paper
   said a few
   months left

his poetry finished
the zeros showing
on the CD player
the words
still inside
me

coming out

he howled
even assholes are
holy
     he was
happy for "the
privilege to witness
my existence"

and his
            us

the hum in the
background of the
old
ressurected tapes
like the machine i sit
at
lost
like the hanging
inflections in the
cadences of all the
beatnik poets

not rising
not falling
hanging
insistent that
we hear
that we listen
that we
participate
in their
history
and ours

our lives
coming and going
together
in some greater
Kaddish for
each other

here we come!
