The FAB&PP Poem of the Month for December 1998
at the wedding
two women
in suits one brown
and warm
the other older
grey
the brown suit
slim and strong
dancing in place
her prey man
shadowed beside
her
she writhes and
preens
the grey ghost
intervenes
with conversation
and distraction
warning the preyman
out of envy or
spite or true love
the beast in brown
refusing to pounce
{the suggestions
held through
photo and feast]
she
straightens her
glasses
strides and canvasses
the scene herself
never straying
constantly swaying
she and the
grey suit
bump their asses
in celebration while
dancing observed
on the
sidelines
still by the table
(not on the floor)
while
the prey man
stands and glances
to
his friends
and waits
to see what he will
see
and will be seen
to
