The FAB&PP Poem of the Month for April 2000

what is it
about a
saxophone
playing in the
background

    even if it's
    bad

which sometimes
makes it
tolerable

    even practice
    scales

the mystery match
of vibrations
between the
ear and the
goof of the
reed
        by itself

sound is about
music
        tone
is everything

or perhaps
                it
is the context

against the drone
of life going
by
    work going
down
        the saxophone
carries past
the flatline
of boredom

and disinterest

you don't have
to be interested
in the saxophone
to hear it
and align to
it and
sing
along its
meandering
way with it
