The FAB&PP Poem of the Month for June 2001

A POEM IN TWO PARTS

the locomotive
line on track
3
6 of them
different ages
styles

6 engines
no waiting
chicago

i have a lot
to do i am
in no rush
i have a list
to work on
i am aimless
busy
        uncertain
                        anxious

i hear the
earnest
conversations
i listen only to
my desires

i occasionally
accomplish

check it
off the list
make a new
one
       i feature
the personal
i want to be
alone i talk
too much and
wish too much

in silence

i read and eat
and write
and the waste
of time
surrounds me
like a vast
salt lake

heavy
as i swim
in it

i’ve said
enough

PART THREE

he looks up
and thinks at
once
     the fog
     is beautiful
the edge
of city
scape
disappearing
