The FAB&PP Poem of the Month for August, 2001

transfixed by
the morning sky
he turns away
from the light
the dark
clouds
disintegrating

the high
grey surface
mottled
dragged east
to west
to blue

the sun
as it rises
behind
playing its pink
across the
angle of
the crumbling
shield

he turns back
to check his
notes the
miracle
           passing
persists
