The FAB&PP Poem of the Month for November 2001

OCTOBER ENDS

the deepening
distant
grey blue
evening sky with
sunset rain clouds of
orange and gold
massing on top of
us with
almost comic
spectacle over
the Thursday
parking lot

moving as fast
as the commuters
to their rides the
light was just
right

    [slowly
    but inexorably
    like the
    train once moving
    departing]

powerful
enough to
capture every one
who looked up from
their shoes and
car keys

these nights
will soon be stolen
by the time
shift
       into winter

this night
held close
a phantom of
the end time
