The FAB&PP Special Poem of the Month for November, 2001

no memorial
no past
the present
morphs around
us in a
swirl of
America

logos and
catch phrases
endless detail
got wrong
and right,
               swapped
and simplified into
us

the new us
less accepted
than realized
briefly
then taken
for granted

    [on stage
    kieth richard
    limps and
    grins
    bemused
    watching
    the other
    players
    strolling
    over beside
    them
    offering a
    lick of
    encouragement]
