The FAB&PP Poem of the Month for September 2010
A PLANNED EVENT
he
wakes
to
the
near
absolute
stillness
of
a downed power
grid
deep
post-midnight
silence
in the
sky
only
the urban bleed
from a couple
blocks away
in the
house
a
few
batteries
complain
of
being drained
he paddles around
with his torch
to
reassure
himself
and
when
the
power
comes back on
a dog barks in
the next yard
oppressed
no
doubt by
the motors
and
transformers
the
buzz
of normal
the clocks
glow again
